COMEDY

Game Night gets REAL when events within a tabletop game mirror reality, forcing a confused pizza delivery man to unwittingly play along with every role of the dice.

THE STORY.png

A routine game night descends into absurdity when a group of friends' tabletop game mirrors a bizarre event outside their house. As one player’s quest spirals out of control, every roll of the dice sends a very confused pizza deliveryman deeper into the chaos.

Every D&D player thinks their party is going to be the Fellowship of the Ring, but through farcical antics and highly questionable actions, the party devolves into Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I want the film's events to capture the absolute absurdity of D&D campaigns by showcasing an absurd situation: a D&D group blissfully unaware of a pizza guy getting the snot kicked out of him by a biker right outside their window.

The Vision.png

This is a film for people who are not only fans of TTRPGs but also those who yearn for original stories. This year has shown us that audiences yearn for original stories from new creators. Films like Iron Lung, Backrooms, and Obsession are proof you don't need Hollywood connections, big budgets, or star power to make a successful movie. You need an audience. All of those films came from people who have cultivated an audience over the years on an online platform. If you have that audience in place, it can take you to the moon. Side Quest is a film that helps us build our audience and elevate everyone who attaches themselves to this project. Filmmaking is a collaborative industry, and a rising tide raises all ships.

In addition, Side Quest hopes to combat the second-screen effect. In today's environment, studios are trying to condition audiences to second-screen viewing: a practice that divides your attention between a primary video source (a film) and a secondary device (typically a smartphone or tablet). This forces filmmakers to break one of the oldest rules of storytelling, where they TELL instead of SHOW. Why? Because the audience is not paying attention and needs to hear everything reiterated so they can still follow the plot, while the film runs in the background. Film is a visual medium, and we aim to push back against that idea by implementing visual humor. We aim to create a film that forces audiences to pay attention and hopefully fight back against second-screen conditioning.
